The
common garden wasp are members of family Vespidae,
which has about 5000 species. The greater number of wasps are
parasitic wasps, most of them being parasitoids. Parasitoids are
wasps that lay their eggs in the caterpillars of other insect
species. Almost every pest insect has at least one wasp specie that
preys upon or parasitizes it. This makes wasps vital to the natural
control of pest numbers, and although they aren’t too dangerous,
they can be very pesky to have around children and pets.
Wasps
are fairly easy to control, for as long as you have the right
methods. One way to trap them is to use honey or jam. The first thing
to do is to close all doors in the house so that no wasps can escape
the room. You should then obtain a jar with a lid. Put water some
water mixed with jelly in the jar and wait for the wasps to fly in.
Once the wasps are inside the jar, close the lid for a minute or two.
Repeat these steps until all wasps are gone.
It
is best to do this while wearing thick clothing to eliminate the risk
of getting stung. Honey is usually better but jam will also work. If
the problem is too severe, and if there way too many wasps that your
jam jar could handle, then it is best to call an exterminator.
